Baby and toddler swimming

Spending time together as a family under the supervision of a trained instructor in clean, heated water is a wonderful experience. Baby and toddler swimming supports your child’s development and makes water a familiar and safe element. Find out more about Kuohu’s family swimming opportunities.

Baby swimming is a joyful way to spend time together and an activity that encourages healthy and regular exercise. The aim is to help children become comfortable in the water, which will facilitate learning to swim later on and increase water safety.

The recommended age for starting baby swimming is 3–6 months, and there is no upper age limit. The baby must weigh at least 5 kg and be able to hold their head up. The recommended age for the advanced baby group is 6–18 months, and previous participation in baby swimming is a prerequisite.

The groups meet in a waterfall or multi-purpose pool where the water temperature is at least 32 degrees and
the depth is 1.1–1.4 metres. The groups are led by instructors who have completed the Finnish Swimming Teaching and Lifesaving Federation’s baby and family swimming instructor training.

The baby’s older siblings can also participate in the groups for the price of admission to the swimming pool. The swimming school course fee includes admission for the participating baby and one adult. For twins (under 18 months), a 1.5-fold course fee is charged, which also includes one adult (in this case, please contact our lifeguards). An admission fee must always be paid when entering the pool area, even if you do not enter the pool. You can see the current course fee when registering in the online store.

Baby swimming classes begin with an information session, which is mandatory to attend.

In the toddler and family swimming group, the focus is on children aged 1.5–3 years. Through games, songs and tricks, children learn the basics of swimming, which will serve as a foundation for learning to swim later on.

Siblings under school age can also participate (normal admission fee). The group meets in the waterfall or multi-purpose pool (water temperature at least 32 degrees and depth 1.1–1.4 metres).

The swimming school course fee includes the admission fee for the participating child. Twins (under 18 months) are charged 1.5 times the course fee. Adults and accompanying siblings need their own swimming tickets (swimming pool admission fee). An admission fee must always be paid when entering the pool area, even if you do not go into the pool. You can see the current course fee when you register in the online store.

Baby swimming classes begin with an information session, which we recommend you attend.
